Like action movies? Is Jacky Chan your idol? Think Jaden Smith is cute? Then The Karate Kid is the movie for you!
Dre (Jaden Smith) left Detroit with his mother for Beijing. He met Mei Ying (Wen Wen Han) and developed a crush on her. Cheng, a kung fu prodigy, attempts to separate them by harassing and humiliating Dre. Once, Dre was beaten up by Cheng and Mr. Han, who revealed to be a kung fu master, comes to Dre's aid. Mr. Han agreed to teach Dre kung fu after taking the arrogant tween down a peg or two. As Mr. Han teaches Dre that kung fu is not about punches and parries, but maturity and calm, Dre realizes that facing down the bullies will be the fight of his life.
Personally, I think this movie is predictable yet heart-warming with one of the most interesting friendships in a long time. I've always been amazed by how good Jacky Chan could act and fight in the movie and yes, he didn't disappoint me. I would rate it 3.5/5. How about you?

Does this film passes the test of worthy remake? Does it stand on its own, being apart from the original (1984)?
